W210 Cruise Control ('96 E300D) -- where?

Where is the cruise control "amplifier" in a '96 E300D (W210 car)? Under the dash like the W123 and W124 cars? Under the hood? Somewhere else? I can't find it in EPC either.

Ours has become intermittent, working sometimes and not sometimes. Well, it 'smells' like an electronic problem -- I've resoldered the amplifier board in our other cars and am prepared to do this one too, if that's what it takes. But first, I have to find the thing. Anyone know? (This is all in addition to checking the brake light switch, bulbs, and fuses, of course.)

Jeremy

If you have a problem where the cruise cuts out make sure all your tires are the same size - don't ask me how I found out the hard way that running fronts and rears of slightly different sizes will screw with the ABS/Cruise computer.

The amplifier isn't. I'm pretty sure that this function is handled by the N10-1 combination control module. But I'm not positive; it could be the IFI injection computer itself.

Cruise control on that car is controlled by the IFI computer as Matt L surmised.

Ifi?

So where is the IFI computer? My mechanic's computer points to a module attached to the passenger's kick panel. I haven't pulled the panel to look -- wife has the car for the day.

Tires are new and identical.

The IFI computer is located in the module box, at the right rear under the hood. It's near the back, with a connector on top. N10-1 is right behind it, with the connector on the left.

I'd next suspect the stalk switch itself...it is more likely the culpret than the IFI computer.

Flakey is as flakey does...

As of today, the cruise control is working again. At least I have a choice of places in which to look.
