ELR 1 t0 7. WHat is it?

On a '86 126 300SDL with 603 engine, there is a knob marked ELR with numbers 1 to 7 on it. It can be turned to any of the numbers and is in the driver's side corner, all the way at the rear, of the engine compartment.

What is it or what does it do?

Forced,

OK I'll check it against the Tachometer.

THanks for the reply.

I learned about that at a meetup, where Roy Hunter was present. It is indeed the idle control.

... but it's not really a knob, but a multi-position plug.

It adjusts the idle, I think by 50rpm at each number.

I have mine set at 5.

The 603 is where MB started to play with computer controlled IP's.

babymog,

If its a multi position plug, how do I use it to adjust the idle?

Lift it, turn it to another number and push it down.

I can't find my ELR

I have an 83 300SD and I have looked everywhere for my ELR. I've read every post on the subject and just can't find mine. My idle is at about 500RPM and I just wanted to move it up a bit. Can anyone point me closer to it.?

There is no electronic idle control on the 617s.

Because they don't need it. Superior engine.

Sorta, but be careful, because if you raise it too high you could have a runaway.
