Oil Leak Question

1984 300sd. My car is leaking oil at the oil filter housing. Has any one out there replaced this gasket before? It looks like it is hard to get to. I have searched the threads, but no luck. Comments and suggestions welcome. Thanks Jack

What part of the oil housing filter is leaking the oil? (Bottom, Top, around the oil cooler lines, . . . )

Have you checked the O-rings in the oil filter housing? There is a large one on the filter (of course), there are also two small O rings at the bottom of the shaft that is attached to the top of the oil filter housing. Check those.

First thing to try is to tighten the oil filter housing bolts. Thats much easier than replacing this thing!

Search for a thread under my name...theres good info there.

The two small o-rings cannot cause an external leak.

You will want to take the proper sized allen wrench and cut the tip down to make it nice and skinny. Oil cooler hoses are always PITA. Dont overtighten the housing on the back like I did .

Oil leak

I had the car on ramps and confirmed it was the gasket between housing and motor. Thanks
