Its an I6 out of a 300SL, or "Gullwing". Notice the fuel injection system, looks very familer doesn't it?   MB always is years ahead of everyone else. Kind of like an ME109 V12 cut in half...

Wow....that engine has a COOL sound!
Direct injection gasser....wshew. Definatley WAY ahead of its time.

Anybody know how such an engine regulated its f/a ratio? Without any electronics, and without any airflow metering, this seems like no small task.
Clearly, by the sound of the idle, it wasn't done to perfection.

Alfa
I had a '71 Alfa spider that had direct gas injection. It seemed to be bulletproof also. I never had a single problem with it.

No they run a lot smoother, that was just the first start after a rebuild so its not going to run as good as it could.
