Okay, self-serve yard peeves:

Last month I saw a perfect set of blue tex seats, left them, a week later they're cut in several places.

Car comes in with 4 wheels, somebody wants them and hides one in a distant minivan so nobody can buy the set. Later, after the car is crushed, you see the missing wheel laying on the ground after someone threw it out of the minvan.

People breaking glass for fun.

Guy wants a blower or something, beats the hell out of everything around it to get to it, ruins perfectly good parts. Same thing when digging for a part and tossing everytihing else out in the dirt/rain.

Etc., etc.

I feel better now.

What's your main pain in the junkyards?

Heres is the worst thing. Someone takes the turbo oil line off the turbo, leaving the hole exposed and sonce they leavew the hoods open for the rain the bearing seizes. What the hell is wrong with people, why would anyone need a oil line for a 617's turbo? Same with the injectors, its a shame they leave these hoods open.

I'm sorry you feel this way. they are a source of material and they would be happy to take my money as well as anyone else's. If I can help out another Mercedes owner I'd be happy to. these things have been my hobby for over 35 yrs. Thats how long I've been driving them. Are you 35 yrs old, you don't look like it. Please save your mis perceptions for someone else thank you Sonny.

Otherwise 1960's fintail sedan dual Zenith carbs and manifolds if ye ever see em!! And/or carbs from any gasoline Benz up until 1975. Then putting em into circulation through ebay listing might net you $150+ in profit and would be service to Vintage MB enthusiasts too.

Too many good parts end up getting scrapped with the hulk.
Shawn you and Forcedinduction, I think, understand what I'm getting at. In far south La. there are not that many enthusiast for old diesels. I'm in touch with some and at one time tried to gather names or emails from anyone down here to help each other out. Not many replied. Thanks for your help. RAY M

The stuff for oldtimers is a different story, but you won't find many in the yard. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with good used parts, but most sellers on fleabay are simply too greedy. It's cheaper for me to call Potomac and get good quality without all the bs if I need a used part. A fellow down the street bought an aftermarket new grill for his '77 300D on fleabay, and after six months it turned orange from rust. Not to mention the hole for the star was too small, and I had to spend twenty minutes with a half round file to make it fit.
I agree there is a lot of cr-p on ebay. Been there experienced it. I'm really no a CR_ppy person. Thanks for your input, it may help someon.

Anyway, used parts are always a gamble, I've got something for sale in the parts section that I thought was a 'slam dunk'... guess I'm as wrong as the last guy who made the 'slam dunk' proclamation. (it was George Tenant)
I'm glad to see a die hard member. It's sinfull to loose all those good restoration parts. Tahnks for your support.

What about the person who buys a "parts car" off of craigslist for a 200 bucks, strips it, sells the parts and sends the shell to the crusher?
Something to think about.
I've got shells I can't see being crushed. 4 to be exact. Thanks for your support

I have to say, the sense of community I get here is simply amazing! Just the other day, I was at Bens Lover's place and he helped me out with my instrument cluster install. Yeah, I know its an easy thing to do, but nothing like an old experienced hand showing you the ropes!

Yep, pick-n-pull and if you're able, please share the love with those of us not as privileged as you to even have a pick-n-pull!
Thanks ZU! Thats me, I will help when I can.

One of my ideas. Part of what I do and most of life is for personal not monetary reward. But I'm not going to pull it for free like TURBOBENZ suggest.

Thats what I'd call sacreligous to the 123 religion. They will probably go to hell I hope. Nothing personal.

Dam we must be related, or have been to some of the same yards. It just makes me sick.

I feel the same way ray. If i want to pick a part and sell it, I will happily. Not only are you benefiting yourself, but people who dont have junkyards. the way i look at it, when I do that, I insure my "intact first aid kit lid" gets on a w123 and not crumbled into 100 piece a year from now. Ive bought used parts on ebay, I think its great that people do this.

Call me selfish I dont care, I am. If i see a way to make easy money I will. Hell, search ebay for "w123 first aid kit lid" and youll find my black lid I got from pick n pull for 5 dollars, currently at 26 dollars. I have another one waiting to sell too.

As for a w123 religion, well, I dont know about that one. That would make me a polygamist, as I enjoy the 126's too
