If you were to go to a Pull A Part lot.
If you were to go to a Pull A Part lot to get parts to sell on ebay, what parts would you think would be most needed or sellable.

Wood, injectors
Those are the pieces that are always missing. However I frown on the practice as I feel pull a part is a communal resource. Not a resource that should be pimped out like a $2 wh*re.

Yeah, I gotta agree. It would be different if you were parting out your own car that for whatever reason is not salvageable. But to go to a pick-n-pull with the express purpose of removing the highly desirable parts to sell on eBay seems to go against the community idea of lots like this.

Yeah man, yer bottom fishing if ye go after junkyard parts for resale where new parts aint prohibitive expensive. Like nobody wants to pay high dollar for 2nd hand untested injectors vs. brand new tips. And shipping cost eats yer profit margin on most parts anyhow.
Otherwise 1960's fintail sedan dual Zenith carbs and manifolds if ye ever see em!! And/or carbs from any gasoline Benz up until 1975. Then putting em into circulation through ebay listing might net you $150+ in profit and would be service to Vintage MB enthusiasts too. |

Or you can do what I did, go there and bring parts back and give them to us for free on the forum

I agree with the others, pulling used parts for the sole purpose of making a quick buck is low.
Things that are expensive to buy new and/or no longer available anymore would be different. Good wood, clean wheels, diesel and g@s injection pumps, 300TD cylinder heads, late OM603 heads, unworn switches, pre-60's parts and other things I probably can't think of right now. |

I agree with everyone else unless you are the ONLY MB enthusiest pulling parts at that particular yard. One part that I can think of would be the blowby gas oil/blowby gas separator that is on the diesels.

I have no problem with folks pulling parts to sell. Too many times, I've seen nice parts and have thought "That'll do someone some good," only to come back and see that part mangled by someone else as they went to get another part. I certainly wouldn't let any rare parts just sit there in case another person happens to know that part is rare and also happens to need it for their ride. Too many good parts end up getting scrapped with the hulk.

The stuff for oldtimers is a different story, but you won't find many in the yard. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with good used parts, but most sellers on fleabay are simply too greedy. It's cheaper for me to call Potomac and get good quality without all the bs if I need a used part. A fellow down the street bought an aftermarket new grill for his '77 300D on fleabay, and after six months it turned orange from rust. Not to mention the hole for the star was too small, and I had to spend twenty minutes with a half round file to make it fit. Last edited by Viva Mexico; 02-13-2008 at 10:41 AM. |

wha????
I love going to the Pnp, If I see a part I want, I pull it, If I see a part I can make $ on I'll pull it. Where I go, the cars get crushed quickly, theres no way I'd leave a desirable part sitting out of some misguided sense of 'community'. Anyway, used parts are always a gamble, I've got something for sale in the parts section that I thought was a 'slam dunk'... guess I'm as wrong as the last guy who made the 'slam dunk' proclamation. (it was George Tenant)

Its a fine line to walk. On one hand, youre doing a service by keeping those hard to find parts from making it to the crusher, which they will go once the car has been picked over good enough. On the other hand, its about equal to all those people buying up Wii's, PS3's and tickle me elmo's at walmart and selling them for a stupid profit on ebay. To each his own, its a capitalist country, if youre not going to do it, im sure someone else is.
What about the person who buys a "parts car" off of craigslist for a 200 bucks, strips it, sells the parts and sends the shell to the crusher? Something to think about.

I agree!! When that monovalve comes I'l be getting a real nice warm feeling every time I switch on the heat in my old merc
I have to say, the sense of community I get here is simply amazing! Just the other day, I was at Bens Lover's place and he helped me out with my instrument cluster install. Yeah, I know its an easy thing to do, but nothing like an old experienced hand showing you the ropes! Yep, pick-n-pull and if you're able, please share the love with those of us not as privileged as you to even have a pick-n-pull!

What pisses me off, and ive seen this thrice in the local pick n pulls, is when people come by and find a first aid kit, rummage through it and throw it all over the cabin. Great!
