How do you install a windshield wiper blade?

I know its kinda dumb.
But I've been looking around for the exact details on how to do it.

The car is a 1984 300sd with the bosch wiper blades.

I saw some videos on other cars, saying you have to bend back the arms, to get to the tabs.

But on this car, you can't really bend back the arms.

Anyways, If you have any insight that would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Tony

I always have to turn the wipers on and then turn the ignition switch off while they're halfway through a cycle to stop them up above the rest position.

Are you replacing the entire wiper blade or just the rubber insert?

Replacing the blade assembly

not the arm.

I get stopping the blade, while its up.

But where are the tabs. And can you remove the blade without bending back the arms. Or is there a special way of bending back the arms?

Or do you need tools like the 13mm hex to take off the arm. To just replace the blades?

it kinda depends on what brand blade was installed last on your car.
if it is the correct bosch blade, there should be some wings and a tab where the arm attaches to the blade attachment, but post a pic and we can tell you exactly what to do.
a pic of the arm/blade end close up if possible.

Been awhile since I did the blade on the SD, but you don't need any tools. A plastic snap down piece needs to be depressed and the entire blade will pull off the pin. I'd check the SD for you, but it's pouring rain right now.

Are you replacing just the blade or the blade and blade frame(not including the arm)?
If its just the blade and it's on the original holder I found it to be a PITA with a lot of pushing and pulling and it took 45 minutes. If its the blade and frame then there is a plastic clip that you press and the assembly should come off easily.

Make sure you have new ones that actually fit before throwing out the old ones. The regular Anco or similar blades that fit 99% of US and foreign cars do not have the right shape plastic to secure to the metal hook of the car. Anco or similar usually has a plastic bump that secures to one side (not the bend) to a hole or groove of the metal hook. But my '85 300sd does not have a hole or groove to secure to the Anco type plastic bump. So the blade could slide off.

I have seen on this forum pics of an extra plastic part that can prevent Anco type blades from sliding off. Also, some Michelin, Duralast or Walmart red package cheap blades have plastic ridges that secure to the bend of the hook (not the straight part) and do stay on.
