Weird instrument/electrical behavior w/tach
I recently pulled my cluster, doing some work on the speedo. Having replaced the cluster, I managed to #$@@#$ zap that live clock wire to ground for a smoking second. Saw no blown fuses.
I thought I dodged the bullet. But now the gp and seat belt lamps periodically light (only when my seat belt is buckled!) and when they do light the RPM indicator goes to zero. It must be that the clock loses power at this point as well, from what I've observed in its time keeping accuracy lately. It would be kinda comical if it weren't so annoying. Any chance this is just a bad ground? On a related note, I replaced a few parts in the speedo -- any hint as to which components are responsible for calibrating it for a given MB trans ratio? Is it the electronic sender portion? The gears themselves? The round "magnet" piece? All of the above? Thanks! -Chuck
