Yeah, if you're paying $75 for an air filter you deserve what you got coming.

on this site suggested retail is 70. Price is around 50. Still way too much, and have not found anything else to fit the housing right, except these....

I take it this isn't from the local NAPA?

I paid $75 for my first air filter after I bought the car. The previous owner had some quicke lube do his regular maintenance that didn't stock the filter so they just never changed it. The filter by this time had a couple of bees, some pine needles, and a lot of dirt/dust and needed to be changed asap. My mileage went up 1mpg after just the filter change.

This was before I got hooked up with my fellow Mercedes brethren on the internet. I only paid about $35 for my last one.

nope, I got the decent ones from advance auto... about 12.00 for it. purolator if memory serves. that one is almost identical to the mahle, but it does not have the wire mesh inside. DO NOT USE the STP filter, it's about 1/2" too short!!!
