How do able is this without the backing plate the FSM calls for? I've got the pump off my car and that spring seems MIGHTY tight. I'm worried will I be able to get the dang thing back together!!?

I think they tell you too make the backing plate because you need it to get the pump back together. Not hard to fabricate and when you put the pump back on, align the valleys of the timing device vertical, then you wont be working against the spring again.

extra washer...OMG....I got the rebuild done (dont buy an EFFBE kit if you can help it)

I have an extra washer left over...the outter washer under the locknut was replaced with the one in the kit...I put the one under the pston and on top ....**** how do I have an extra washer???

HELP!!! I dont want to kill my vacuume pump!!!

I had forgotten to put the washer under the piston. When I took the pump off my clamping rig, the spring loaded roller was stuck all the way up...so I took it apart again...did it again, same result. I'm very frustrated!

Can you take a pictures of it and post them? That may help us. Would need to see both sides--the top of the piston, and the back side to see the arm too.

There are some pretty good pictures of a rebuild at the link below. Check it out...
