Thats a very cool little device. If I hadn't spent a fortune recently on clothes, a digi SLR, shoes, decorating the house, concert tickets, and also the fact that I'm saving up for a TVR, I'd buy one :D
|
Just ordered mine from the link you provided nhdoc. Should be here no later than Monday. Looking forward to seeing "what's going on" inside this machine. Mine is a bit lethargic lately and seems to have a bit of a fuel leak somewhere. Faint smell of Diesel under the hood, but nothing showing any wetness yet. Or at least visible wetness without taking the intake manifold off.
I will be installing it just as nhdoc showed, and hopefully it is stable there. Jim |

Mine arrived today and I tried it out quickly before it got dark and cold outside. I warmed the car up and checked how the various gauges in the car and on the Scangauge II tracked. Pretty close. So, I tried to scan for codes. It tells me it found none, and then under that it tells me it isn't ready. Hmmm.
Well, I took it out on the highway and all I could manage for more than a few seconds was a manifold pressure of 30.1 psi. Not bad. Too crowded to stare at the unit though, with the throttle floored. Pretty cool gadget! Thanks for the tips! Jim |

I didn't have any codes stored either and also got the "not ready" message which has something to do with not having had enough time since the last clearing of codes from the OBD memory. I haven't re-scanned it so I don't know if it will still display this message now but will check it next time I drive and let you know what mine says. It might be a result of playing with it and inadvertantly resetting the OBD system while pushing buttons on the scangauge. Now that I know better how to use it I should be able to scan it and see that message gone. |

Anyone else get one of these tools and play around with it?

I was going to buy that toy or a new cell phone PPC unit, I opted for the phone. But the ScanGuage is next :D

1 Month Later....
Ok... It is one month since the first post, has the use of the ScangaugeII changed your driving habits??
|
Yes, I find myself much more aware of how hills eat my mileage, and do a lot less cruise control driving. Cruise on hills just eats fuel. I also find myself backing off the gas on long uphill stretches to avoid a significant mileage penalty. At $4.50 a gallon, this thing is going to pay for itself soon. I have managed to get over 28 mpg in rural "in town" driving and over 31 mpg on the highway. Both are significant improvements and in 25,000 miles will have paid for the gauge. Jim
PS: Still no code reading functionality. I still get the "not ready" message. |
You do find yourself being a lot more aware of the rate at which fuel is consumed during "power" moves. It makes you feel guilty when you press down hard enough to see the MPG fall below 5.
I haven't had any trouble scanning for codes since the initial error message I got when I installed it. Make sure you're not clearing codes instead of reading them - that's what triggers the "not ready" message. |
I tend to use the LOD guage, which measures load on the engine. With no turbo, I got no reason to try to measure boost.
Has anyone else noticed while just coasting on the interstate the MPG skyrockets? Sometimes all the way to 9999? |
