Scangauge II Install W210

I'm starting a new thread since there was one where this product had been discussed and at least one member wanted to see it installed. Here is it in my '98 E300. It took about 15 minutes to install. It's stuck using heavy duty stickum tape to the top of the little shelf which protrudes over the steering column extender but that piece does not move so the steering wheel adjustments can still be made.
I just pulled the lower panel down (3 screws removed to get it loose) and tucked the wire in behind that panel and came through an existing hole at the bottom where I zip tied it in place. I removed the door to the OBD cover though I could have left it flopping there. If you are careful you can remove the door without breaking it...I broke mine :mad: |
Nice. OBD has its advantages sometimes. :)

I did the exact same install, with the exception of the cable. I coiled up the excess, and used small strips of velcro tape to hold it to the underside of the panel. In the event I need to use it in another car, it makes it easier for me to move the cable along with the unit. Great little gadget, and well worth the money.

Well, as the one that asked, I have to say thanks, nice write up and extra pictures.
I was envisioning something similiar myself and wondering about the fit in that area. But I rarely drive the thing and have not gone out to take a look at mine. I have been wanting some form of scanner, but this is the best of both worlds, for less money than what I was looking at and far more practicle. Thanks again!!! |

I use MAP (which acts as a boost gauge as long as you subtract the atmospheric pressure from it), MPG, Volts and Water Temp on mine. I think there is a way to display HP but have not been able to program that one yet.

I have a '98 E300. It doesn't have fun trip MPG computers, etc., built into the car like some newer ones. Will this gadget still give me readouts for efficiency from the OBD port? I'm very curious how it will deal with my dual fuel tanks... :cool: Thanks! Cheers, John |
I checked the compatibility page on their website- I'm correct when I say that this unit will NOT work with a 1987 300D, right? Or is there any hope? Because hell, that would be friggin cool..

For example, I had to correct the MPH slightly because it was off by 1 MPH at 70 (I confirmed it by checking against my GPS). I just checked it and the fuel capacity will go up over 100 gallons, but I stopped checking when it got over 100 so I don't know how high it will go.
I also just programmed my first "Xgauage" which I made horsepower. So now I can monitor the engine's HP output. I don't know how it calculates it but it is based upon a OBD parameter. If I could find out what other OBD parameters M-B used I could also call them up. Some systems monitor such things as transmission fluid temp and oil pressure too. |
I think I'm going to treat myself to a 10-month-early Christmas present and order one of these things. At $170, it's a bargain -- you get all the cool gadgetry along with a diagnostic trouble code reader. Thanks a million for posting it up. I'm putting it on my to-do list for this week. :):):)
