Transmission Click Clack 300TD 1980

Hi. Trouble is this: 'Click and Clack' sound as gears are about to change between 2/3 (and to a lesser extent 3/4).
From two to half a dozen fast clacks. Only when cold. Sound goes away after a few gear changes.
Filter and fluid (both converter and pan) are new. No debris in pan. Fluid was clean. Fluid level is correct. No leaks.
Fluid used is Castrol Transmax M. There is slight flare between 3/4 but otherwise the transmission is fine.
Car is 300TD 1980 non turbo.
Any leads?

Cheers,
Mark

I was thinking about this= I think you should get under the car and look at the flex discs and the U joint. also the hanger bearing. it could well be a part of the propeller shaft or maybe even the CV joints. do it soon-

if you can rule out all these things, then?? but you should not drive it if one of these is going to fail- it will leave you on the side of the road or worse, and can cause major damage.

Thanks. I'll look at those things this afternoon. Would they settle down after a few km and not make any more noise? Maybe. The noise is not between 1st and 2nd or at any other time other then between 2nd and 3rd and sometimes between 3rd and 4th - and then only when it is cold. So I think it is the
transmission. I would like to have some idea before i put myself at the mercy
of the mechanic!

Cheers
