Hood Latch Pull VERY broken, how to open?

I need to open the hood of the 81 300SD and the inside hood pull is very broken. It was a little broken until just 10 minutes ago when I really finished breaking it. The wire that pulls the hood is now broken far up into the dash.
I was able to locate a small section of it at the front of the car under the hood and pull on it (of course taking the wire further away from the inside of the car) and open the left side of the hood. But the right side won't unhook no matter how hard I pull.
I need to get into the engine, so boys how do I do this now?

Thanks,
as always,

Use a bent coat hanger through the grille to hook the latch.

pull hard with vise grips to the driver side fender .....amlost like your trying to pull it around the car to the drivers wheel....and push down a lil on the hood to make it softer on the cable.

Thanks, I'll try this.
I have a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator for added heat and the cardboard hides the latch so the coathanger thing won't work.
I did search and all the threads were the coathanger trick.

Is there a way to fix this so the car opens from the front and not from the inside?
