Thumbs up Violet Wire Mod Works

I made a post a while back about hellatiously smokey start ups and thinking the valve seals were bad. How wrong was I. At the suggestion of several members here, I did the "violet wire mod" while hooking it up to a thermal relay to allow for afterglow. Well with diesel at $4.20 and rising about 20 cents a week my truck is parked and the Benz is the DD now. It fired up this morning (about 11 degrees outside) with only a small puff of white smoke. All the blue smoke that poured out for about 1-2 minutes is gone. Thanks go to Babymog and all who suggested it.

What did you use for the thermal relay? where did you mount it?

I am glad it works for you as I want to do it myself...

Seach a post I made "afterglow, done right" I took an extra relay I had laying around and used the thermal switch already in the head. If you use the switch to drive the coil of the relay it works like a champ. I mounted the relay on a little tab I fabbed up just outside the engine heat shields.

Just got around to it this last weekend actually and I, like a jack@$$ I might add, forgot my camera at my shop about an hour and a half drive from my house. I'll try to get down there this week, but saturday for sure i'll get to it. Thanks for your patients.
