tranmission question no foward gears
looking to expand my fleet found a local car 85 300SD 248k on it only one problem it won't go into the foward gears only reverse...anyone have any ideas on if this is an easy fix? thanks

I read somewhere on these forums about a B2 piston and sleve what are these?

That is a brake band piston, located on the pass side of the tranny. It applies pressure to the band, allowing the the forward clutch to engage. It is not a hard repair and you do not have to drop the traany to do it.

The cheapest quickest thing to do and check first is to install a couple of cans of Trans-x to see if the lack of response is from varnish having built up in the little openings of the trans shifting body... use the search... several reports of success even lately doing this.. it won't hurt anything if it does not work... typically less than $20 total...
follow the instructions on the can... |

Will it move forward with the slightest application of the throttle. If so see if it will go through all the gears and cruise nicely in 4th. If that is the case it is probably the B2 piston.
