Will a worn ou tourqe coverter make a clicking noise?

On my 300sd, I am getting a very obnoxious, intermittent cicking noise coming from the area where the transmission meets the engine.I verified this by using a stethoscope. It will usually happen while idling in drive, but can happen anytime i am idling. The sound goes away when under power. I swapped the engine and transmission a few months ago, and have not managed to get rid of the noise. I have a spare tranny flex plate, and torque converter I can swap in if necessary.
Do you guys have any thoughts on what could be causing the clicking?

There should be an access plate at the bottom of the torque converter area of the transmission. Remove it and check the bolts holding the plate to the converter. It soulnd like a bolt is working loose.

There is also a flex plate between flywheel and converter that can get cracks. It can fool some mechanic to think its a rod gone.

I doubt it is the TC. The sounds it would make would be the opposite (louder with higher rpms). #2 on flex plate or loose bolt. Also motor mounts. Get it on a lift and have it checked out. The problem should be easy to find.
