No forward or backward movement.......whatsoever.......

Hello, I am new in this forum. I need some advise regarding my 83, 300SD turbodiesel. My car will not go forward or backward when I shift the gear manually. I have checked all the vacuum hoses and all hoses working fine. I do not know whether I have a faulty torque converter, transmission or vacuum problem. I will appreciate your advises. Thank you in advance. hawthorne

Crawl under the car and have a look at the shift linkage. It goes from the underside of the gear selector to the transmission. I bet it came loose, and you need new grommets.

If the linkage is ok... try putting in two cans of Trans-x .... after taking enough fluid out so you are not overfilling it... then run the trans through the gears with the brake applied... about a minute each gear.. high idle.... one after another..... at least twenty minutes....then check to see if it will move...

Sorry to do this but earlier I received notice that Hawthorne's POST above was made on a long THREAD I started at: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=158216.
I gave a rather detailed response and now the above POST and my responding POST have dissappeared from the THREAD above. Very disturbing to have my lengthy [and hopefully useful] POST dissappear... but at least I have found Hawthorne's [this] POST again. I can understand my post vaporizing... but how did the POST above get moved from one THREAD to another... unless there were duplicates and the computer's software or PERSON deleted and/or moved things around as I am now seeing and in the process my detailed POST was trashed... for I canNOT find it anywhere here?

Q - Anyone see an earlier response from me to this POST??
Somewhat frustrated here on the LEFT coast,
