Talking Fantastic!

Not a serious thread, but...new tires do rock, yes rock. I took an on ramp today that has a wicked curve, pretty much it turns you around 180 degrees by the time you get to the top. I floored it and figured I'd keep my foot into it until I felt a little scrub than back out so I don't stuff it into the guard rail. Plus a Honda rice car was riding me and I needed to educate him on what grip is, well he gave up at 50, I kept going to just about 60 and she held! Needless to say I am very happy with the old SDL, she embarresed that riced Civic. The ricer had some crummy what looked like 17-18 Walmart specials on.

225/55/16 on the front
245/50/16 on the back

Proving my 21 year old W126 is a better car than a riced Civic=priceless...

To bad I can't go wider...

Yep, its a cube. Off to Japan to become a good car, or Chine to become Walmart crap or a tank.

Now for the question, which cars handle better? w123'S OR W126'S

Ive done some serious flossing in both and I think the sd is better in turns, especialy in terms of body roll

Neither. A stock Civic will out handle both of them.

Well as I just proved thats not the case. He ran out of grip before I did.

The body roll in the W126 is amazing, it certianly doesn't pretend to have ABC.

The body roll makes it more exciting!

Yesterday I took one of those U-turn around things in the center of a split roadway real fast, and I floored it half way through the turn, and as I was pulling out onto the roadway I turned real sharp and my drivers side rear wheel let out a real live squeeeeaaaaal! That was a thrill! I've gone into a sharp onramp before going about 50-55, (recommended speed 25) and it started migrating a little, but didn't fishtail. And thats with stock wheels + good Michelins.

On another note, I test drove that 300TE today, jeeze does that M103 have power! I floored it and I was past 60 before I knew what was happening!! And, it sounds AWESOME. So I am not opposed to MB gassers, the diesels will always be my favorite....but I'd not mind having a 300E as my second car. Not sure if we'll buy the TE.....its cheap but we're still tempted to keep searching for a normal 300E, or a 240D manual....that'd be the best one for a spare car.

My Civic's stock tires have some really good grip. While I've never driven a 126 to any extreme, I don't think a 126 will handle better than the smaller 123. I can say without any doubt that a late model Civic will out handle a 123 by far.
The guy certainly lost his cojones.

True. That's the bottom line. You're the better driver.

According to R+T back in the day...A 560SEL, the heaviest of the W126 bunch, albeit with a self-leveling rear suspension, turned in 0.78G on the skidpad with 205/65/R15 tires. That's not bad, IMHO, for an old tank with skinny tires.

I've driven a late model Civic and I didn't think it was that great. A 2007 rental car. NOT IMPRESSED! The japanese are still trying to isolate you from the road, not become part of it!

Agreed. I'm just saying it may not be your car out handling his. It may be the driver.
How about if we throw the 124 into the debate as well? So we have a late model Honda Civic, 123, 124 and 126.

I think the 124 wagon handles better than the civic hybrid. The wagon has new Falken's 205/60 15. The HCH 2 has 195/65 15, the same size tire the wagon came with new.

Now that you have tasted a nice but smaller I6, you need to drive something with balls. The M103 should motivate that car to 60 in about what 7-8 seconds...

Once you drive something with at least an M119, NFW will you be able to go back. Or you could dance with the devil, an M120 is just amazing to drive. Everyone should own a V12 at least once in their lives, nothing compares.

Your mission is to find a good, not a beat, but a good SL/CL/S600 to test drive. There has to be a used car lot with a pretty decent 140, or 129 around you, throw some good cloths on, plus a nice dark set of expensive sunglasses, and go for it.
