'74 240D A/C works, sort of...
Well, when I bought the '74 240D I saw it was missing its A/C belt. The PO said is was missing when he bought it. I assumed the worst but the compressor turned by hand OK and there was refrigerant still in the system so I figured I'd buy a belt and see if it would work.
Sure enough it sprang to life, and started to cool but I noticed the compressor was bouncing around alot, and then I saw that all of the rubber bushings on the mounting bolts were badly deteriorated, and one of the bolt heads was rubbing against the bypass hose which ran behind the compressor carrier bracket so I pulled the belt off again before it ruined that little hose. I ordered a set of the bushings and it looks like I will have to pull off the carrier bracket to replace them all. Looks like a bit of a PITA but compared to what can be involved with an A/C repair it is not too bad. Guess I lucked out somewhat with that one.
