if they made a vin number key than the door locks are most likely gummed. If not then the ignition was changed during its life and the door locks are different. the vacuum should not matter mine as well is plugged due to a vacuum leak in the door system and i dont care to fix that.

My 83 has similar situation I think. There is a separate key to the door locks than the ignition because at some point a PO had to change the ignition out. So the later Ignition key does not work in the doors... however the older key does and does not work the ignition. Fortunately I have both though.

I ordered key blanks from Keymen.com and just had them cut at the local hardware store. But I had to have them cut both keys. One for ignition and one for doors.

In your case I don't know what to tell you if lubrication doesn't work. But prepare for the possibility that you have a similar situation. And the only thing I can think of to do is change out the exterior door tumblers to a matched set with key. Although its possible a locksmith might can make you a key... for the existing tumblers?

Had the same problem with my 84 300D--a key for the ignition and another key for doors and trunk. Thanks to info in previous threads, I went to local MB dealer and had a new ignition tumbler made. You will need the VIN number and proof of ownership. It takes about 3-5 days to receive the new tumbler and master key, and locks and ignition will match.. It only took me 10 minutes to replace the tumbler(there are threads that explain how to do this) . The cost was less than $50, but for me, it was worth the cost to have one key for the ignition and doors.

Your problem is that a PO changed your tumblers and didn't get them from the MB dealer. You can order a set of tumblers from your local MB dealer and it will come with a master key - it's done based on your cars serial number and then you'll have one key that works everything.

Thats right.

But... what the heck. Someday I will get around to fixing it right... when everything else is fixed...
