Does anyone know where I can buy an oil cooler for my 1971 220D? I have done several online searches and have found no vendors for this specific model and year. Can I replace my old one with an off-the shelf standard diesel oil filter? I've seen some for $179.00

SOme people will disagree with me, but depending on your location, I would consider bypassing the cooler altogether. MB solds lots of those engines without an oil cooler. I believe one of the criteria they used in adding an oil cooler was if AC was installed. I owned a 307d truck in Europe with a 616 and it did not have an oil cooler.
Sorry, I don't know a source for an OE oil cooler. I would think any oil cooler would be an adequate substitute. For instance, I bought an oil cooler for JC Whitney to install as a cooler for the power steering fluid on my Bluebird bus. Adapting the lines and finding a location to mount it would be necessary.
