Dead Diff. options?
I was over at a friends house a few days ago and in his field was a 300dt. I asked what was the deal with the car and he said his wife wanted to drive it but that he did not want to go get her where ever the car broke down. So he told me that if I wanted it to take it. I have the car up on stands now and have been going through all the parts that might be broken/on there way out and it looks like the diff. was run with low oil for sometime andis dead.
Its a 2.88 and it would be nice to find another, but a 3.07 would be fine. Does anyone know where I can find a diff in NH/MA? or what models would fit a w123? I'm leaving for Sweden to live for a few month next Monday and would really like to have this car on the road by then. |

Any 82-85 300D/CD/TD/SD will work. If you want to use a 3.07 you will need to swap the speedo as well to keep it accurate.

Where are you located. I know there is a 300D wagon @ Jacks in Billerica, Ma. It is on top of another car- should allow easy access to remove the diff.

I am parting an 85 123 w/ a 3.07 right now. I have the diff and cluster. pm me.
I was going to put it in my wagon, but it already has a 3.07

Jacks you say? I was just down at hollands the other day, no w123's. I'll have to give Jack's a call tomorrow and see what the deal is. Thanks for the tip!!

I went down to Jack and talked then down to 300 for the diff. I think thats way high but I got two good half shafts and its a 2.88. Its installed in the car now but it seems that the pinion is a little loose (the drive shaft can move a little bit forward and backwards), has anyone had this problem before? If so was it just a loose nut or were the bearings shot?

1/16", more or less, of rotation is allowed. More than that is probably not so good.
