Starting problem 1983 300d
Thought this would be an easy fix, but apparently not. I got in the car one day and turned the key and it wouldnt start. It was like the key would turn to on, but not all the way to start.
I figured it to be a neutral safety switch problem so I ordered one and in the meantime I start it by turning the key on, then popping the hood and shorting the wires on the passenger side fender with a remote starter switch. it starts, but it's a pain. The switch came in the mail, and I unplugged the old switch and plugged in the new switch (without mounting it.) Not matter what position the arm on the new switch is in it still does the same thing. The reverse lights come on when the switch is in the revers position, but still no start. Anything I'm missing here? Is there a relay or something that could be bad? Is it a bad ignition switch?

Sounds like a bad ignition switch, but get out a meter and test to be sure.
