Marks on camshaft cover

The outside of the camshaft cover has some little scratch marks on the outside if the camshaft cover opposite of the injectors. When I took the camshaft cover off to do my first vave adjustment there was marks on the inside of the cover as well. There doesn't seem to be any moving parts on the inside or outside that could cause this. There are no marks around the timing chain area. The engine runs and sounds good. Any ideas what caused this? It's a '81 240d that I got about a month ago.

Same Thing Here

I found the same marks on my valve cover when I adjusted the valves. I think they must be a leftover from the manufacturing process.

Ditto, leftovers from the casting/machining process.
