Sticking speedo

About a month ago i removed my cluster to repaint the needles and add the tach to my 240. Ever since then my speedo would bounce up to 20mph. After i put it back in that night it was smooth as glass. I didnt touch the cable other than to disconnect and reconnect. Now the speedometer sticks on the stop until about 20-25mph then jumps up and works fine until i leave from another stop again. If i tap the dash lightly right when i take off it works fine. Anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

Is the needle ever so slightly touching the speedo face?

Mine does the same thing. The PO at some point repainted the needles and I have always assumed that is what causes the needle to stick to the stop.
Mine doesn't seem to stick quite as much in the winter when the weather is cold and dry.

The jumping was caused by a bind in the cable, the sticking is caused by the new paint. Use a small drop of oil on the pin the needle rests on to fix the problem.

No, the needle doesnt touch the face.

I was thinking the same thing since my oil pressure gauge was sticking for the first couple of weeks after the new paint. Oil sounds like a good idea. When i replace my bulbs next week i'll try that. Thanks.

Yes, paint is the sticking problem. The oil idea is a great suggestion, I'll have to try that myself too.
