primer pump leaks

just replaced both fuel filters thanks to some good advice from you all and found that when i used the primer pump it leaks diesel when i use it is it supposed to? the reason i changed the filters is the car all of a sudden is acting fuel starved i just bought it 4 weeks ago and it has run very well until 4 days ago now it stalls and the idle is very rough if it will even idle at all any thoughts?

Lotsa times.....

When primer pumps leak fuel, they allow in air to the fuel system. A froth of fuel doesn't inject very well, and will indeed act fuel starved. This might be your problem.

From this, I can tell you have the old style priming pump, notorious for leaking. The best bet is to go with the new style which requires no loosening, only pumping to your hearts content. Check Fastlane (Buy Parts)

Agreed, mine only leaked when pumping, I think. I replace the primer as a routine with the new style pump.
