Front windshield???

Which is the cheapest way to have a front windshield replaced? Should I go to a junk yard or use one of the national dealers? Thanks.

I would say that in the long run, paying to have a place do it for you with an OE seal is the best bet. I paid $344 for mine and it hasn't leaked since.

I seen other members paying around $220 IIRC during sales.

I got it done for free from my insurance company. In CT if you have glass coverage its usualy pretty simple.

Check your policy.

Ask the place you are considering if they use an original MB rubber seal. If not pay the difference out of pocket for a real mcCoy, with a MB pick ticket attached. The autoglass places usually prefer to use an aftermarket seal that is chincy in the corners and will forever leak then your floor boards get rusted out then you regret saving $75 to lose the car
You've been warned!!!

Definitively get a OE seal, and i would also suggest OE sealer compound. Combined with a proper install the windshield will be good to go for another 20-30years.

On the glass you can sometimes get a nice W123 windshield at the yard.
The thing is to install it... I broke 2 of them before getting the hang of how to do it properly... So if you really want to not bother go to the dealership, get the seal and seal compound and call an installer and order a new glass. The results is worth it...

Get an OEM windshield seal from Mercedes. Don't even look at the price. Pay it!! Then find a Safelite dealer near you, get the windshield from them and provide the MB seal for them to use.
I just had one done in the wagon and didn't use an OEM seal and it was a disaster. It doesn't leak but it took 3/4 of a day for 2 guys to get everything installed, and it still doesn't look as clean as an OEM seal would. And these were very tenured glass installers.......

**edit**
BTW, you asked for cheapest way, but you should find the cheapest solution that still uses the OEM seal. Ask a question, heed the advice!

Get new one free from insurance company

I just had a rock from a truck hit my windshield last week, and crack it pretty bad. I was worried the insurance company would have some way of "denying" my claim. But I called, and yep, it's free, that's part of my insurance coverage. They're putting a brand new one in later this week, MB brand.

Safelite. Some member just paid $170 without the seal. They offer lifetime warranty against leakage so their $40 seal is cheaper than the OEM be better waranteed.
