Slide the little screwdriver around the inner rim of the actuator cup until you get under the ring. It's tapered, so you'll get under it eventually with a little fishing. Then you can pull the ring a little toward the center to reduce its diameter. It will come out. I'd suggest a gauge temporarily in place of the firewall switchover valve to know where your setting is at, and what you are changing it to.

Well, after many stops and starts and delays for various reasons, I have the rebuilt turbo installed and The Ambassador is back on the road.
Runs like a charm too. No squealing, no burnt oil smell when I mash it to the floor. I like my 300D but it doesn't compare to the ride of my W116. Good to be back in the old boy.
