1979 300D Climate Control Removal

I recently purchased my first Mercedes Diesel and so far I love it. The only climate control function that works is the defrost on very hot.

I am trying to remove my climate control unit so I can attempt to repair it. (I keep reading about bad solder joints). I have removed the ash tray, radio, the under dash panel under the steering wheel, the under dash panel under the gloove box.

I was able to pry the wood panel from around the automatic control unit. (broke it).

Now I am stuck.

Do I need to take the dash off to get this control unit out? Please help.
