The time is growing near to replace my steering box. It is sloppy, especially to the left. The front end/steering linkages are tight - the slop is in the box. I have tried loosening the adjustment screw and I am at the limit. I have maybe 1.5-1.75" of play at speed on the highway that I really don't like. Its the last outstanding project on my restoration...
How have results been with reman boxes? I have seen a pictorial on DIY resealing of a W123 P/S box, but I am concerned my gears are worn internally beyond a reseal. I want to do this project once, not twice :-) Sources for a reman box. I have found - ********AZ - $~365 http://www.***************/search/product.aspx?sid=ld0dfg45tbd5z3ac3ju5dtiv&makeid=800016@Mercedes&modelid=1193767@300DT&year=1982&cid=steering@steering&gid=7416@Steering%20Gear%20Box Performance Products - $~690 http://www.performanceproducts4benz.com/productpage.aspx?pid=105895&cid=19&sid=448 Mercedesshop.com - $~544 $~http://catalog.worldpac.com/mercedesshop/sophio/wizard.jsp?partner=mercedesshop&clientid=catalog.mercedesshop&baseurl=http://catalog.peachparts.com/&cookieid=1Y30QN7KB2D60VKWYW&year=1982&make=MB&model=300-DT-001&category=M&part=Steering+Gearbox anywhere else people have had luck with? dd
