about the evap temp sensor...question

I pulled the HVAC box out of the car and replaced the evaporator...fun! My question is on the evap sensor and here is a link for a picture of it so we are on the same page http://catalog.eautopartscatalog.com/mercedesshop/sophio/wizard.jsp?partner=mercedesshop&clientid=catalog.mercedesshop&baseurl=http://catalog.peachparts.com/&cookieid=1YC1BU6YY21D1D7CJ3&year=1981&make=MB&model=240-D-002&category=R&part=A%2FC+Evap+Temp+Sensor

My question... does the very end of the copper solid core line need to be touching the evaporator or just the air space close to the evap?

thanks ahead of time!

Everyone always says that's the evap. temperature sensor, but on my W123 240D (Type 1 system), my evap. temp sensor is a thermistor that inserts between the fins on the evaporator.

yes, and I have the box put back together with the end of that sensor between some coils, but I dont remember if it was that way when I took it apart...but for sure we are talking about the same thing..

Where the sensor mounts there is an access hole for the wire to be inserted into the evap box. Push the wire into the box as far as it will go. About 2-3 inches.

thanks dmorrison for all the pics when you did it, I have used them a bunch...

I left this part on the box when I took it apart, and there is enough sticking in the box to actually come in contact with the fins... sooooo.... is it supposed to touch them or just monitor the airspace?
