Intermittent Windshield Wiper Malfunction

94 S350: The wipers quit sometimes and will not work . They stop in the intermittent position and in the normal wiper setting but seem to work just fine in the fast mode. Some of the time I can get them working again by turning to the fast setting and sometimes nothing works and they restart on their own after a 20, 30 seconds or as long as a minute or two. This has been very disconcerting... especially since Northern Virginia has been inundated with rain lately. I am leaning toward replacing the control stalk. Anyone have an idea of what the problem can be? The archives are silent on this subject. TIA

wiper control relay. Mounts on top of the fuse box under the hood on the driver's side.

Watch ebay for the items, or expect to pay well north of $100 at the dealer.

Might also check with the parts section of this forum, I don't know whether they sell 'em or not, but their service is without parallel, and their prices beat the dealer.

This are the same symptoms my 80TD exhibited. I swapped relays and still did same thing. Decided to check the combo switch and found one wire broke off its terminal inside the steering column. Resoldered and presto!!! works again.
