Adjusting valves

I have a 1987 300D and I need to do a valve adjust. Is it easy or leave to the pro's. I have replaced struts, brakes and minor repairs on the car, I guess what I'm traying to say is that I'm very handy. How can I get instruccions or how much can I spect to pay for such job.
