Anyone know of a later model, preferrable more gears, e.g. automatic six speed transmission that will bolt up to our beloved diesel cars....w126? Some modifications would be required I'm sure, but a couple of extra gear would be most welcome.

They might. Depends on bolt pattern. Also some will require the input of an ECM, or some other electronic device.

90 Dodge D250 5.9 Cummins/5 speed. 400K

Gone and still missed...1982 w123 300D, 1991 w124 300D

Lots of computer control will be required if you want more than 4 speeds in an automatic that will fit.
