New starter switch, new starter, still intermittent no Start--85 300D

New starter switch, new starter, still intermittent no Start on my 85 300D--does anyone think what I am thinking? My idea is to replace all the wiring in the ignition circuitry.

My wife uses the car as her daily and she's been very patient. She knows how to jumper the #2 screw on the passenger side wiring terminal in the engine compartment.

The other day I changed the oil and knocked a vacuum hose loose. She called from work and said that the car wouldnt stop. I told her how to push the RED stop lever on the fuel pump. On that day, she hadto go to a luncheon and she actually started the car by jumpering #2 terminal and stopped it by pushing the Red STOP lever. One of her coworkers looked on incredulously--thats what you get for being a Dieselhd Wife.
