300d 124 window blowing fuses

My wife's (passenger side) window has stopped working and started blowing fuses. As an electronics person, I know that one of two or three things is doing this but is there a common on of the three that could be happening?

1. Wire somehow grounding itself (after the switch since it happens when I press the switch to go up or down)

2. Switch bad

3. Regulator's Motor bad

thanks for the help. I know some things are pretty common to MBs just wondering if this is something someone else's encountered.
thanks!
Nick

check the wiring in the door hinge area. very common to have frayed wire short out here.
aside from that, plan on getting a motor...

Try the window with the door open.

If you remove the door inner panel, you can see the wiring and possibly pull enough into the door to inspect it.

At that point, disconnect the two wires on the screw terminal (remember which is which), and try the window switch. If it is still shorted, not the motor.

If you need a motor, I probably have one, send me a PM.

Where it runs through the rubber boot. That is what was causing it on my wagon. I believe Jeremy has a right up on it.

Write on!

My thread here is for a right rear window but you may very well have a similar problem in your right front (assuming you let your wife ride in the front seat )

Vstech is almost certainly right. Mercedes apparently chose stranded wire in which the individual strands were a little bit too coarse and brittle; they tend to break over many years of flexing as the doors are opened and closed.

Note Babymog's suggestion. When you remove the motor wires from the terminal strip, you can connect them directly to a spare 12 Volt battery. It doesn't matter which way you connect them. One way is "Up," the other way is "Down." I'll bet that the motor will work.

Pulling the wires in or out of the rubber boot so you can find and fix the breaks that are causing your short circuit will then cure the fuse blowing. If you put the wires back on the terminal backwards, the switch will work in reverse, so make sure you test it before you put the door panel back on.

IMHO, R&R of the door panel is more work than all the rest. Remember to lift up before you pull out on the door panel. The plastic hooks get brittle and break .

Sorry to rain on your parade; to make amends, I would happily buy from you an uncracked W124 dark blue dash w/o airbag.

When I find a '91-up black one, I'll be pulling the blue one from my driver. 'Till then, ... I'm considering dying it black down to the mid-point like the other colors have.
