INterchangeability of sunroof motor units on W123
I have a "old style" sunroof motor assembly that came off of a '81 300D (W123 chassis) - it has the motor as a separate piece that drives through a rubber coupler. It has a "key" with it to manually operate the sunroof using a socket in case of need. My '83 300D has a different type of sunroof motor, all integrated together and the cable coming from the sunroof appears to be shorter in relation to the trunk mounting holes compared to the '81 I took the "old style" sunroof motor off of. Has anyone retrofitted an earlier style motor to a later body? Will the sunroof cable extend further back?

I never knew there was a difference. Hopefully someone will chime in for you.
