De-rusting INSIDE engine...

I posted this issuein my new SD thread, but figured I'd get better/more responses if I make one for the issue... The water pump on it failed while I was coming home, and after taking it off, its obvious why. The inside is completely rusted, and its making grinding sounds when it turns. It seems like the inside of the engine is also very rusty... How do I de-rust inside it!? This is why you do not use the green coolant!

Citric Acid

Do a citric acid flush. Be sure to remove the block plug over starter when
flushing. Search here for the exact procedure. Search terms citric acid,
correct coolant. I changed my coolant without the acid flush. I used
that Xerex G5 stuff. I changed it first to the green stuff before I discovered this forum. I flushed all the green stuff out and replenished
with G5. Removing the block plug really makes a mess. Runs right up your
arm.

Citric acid, a little rust is normal. Make sure to change your coolant every 2-3 years.

Flushing the TD at the moment. Waiting for it to cool to drain, rinse repeat... Nasty rusty looking stuff coming out when the green color was gone so I figure I'll let is set a bit. Wonder how long citric acid can safely stay in there???

I don't know about the 603 but the 617, IIRC, is painted inside from the factory.

Ordered some citric acid off ebay. Should be here in like a week... Found a car at the junkyard with a virtually new water pump in it, and a coolant level sender I'm going to install..
