New member saying hello

Howdy all,
My name Is James , live in Land O' Lakes Fl. and I just decied to jump into this crazy world of the Mercedes Diesel.
I have to say that I am thourougly impressed with the Mercedes automobile.
I now know why they are considered the standard that all other cars are compared to.
Anyway, I've attached a few pics of the car.
It's a 1978 300D N/A
I got it from a fellow member on this very board.
I have learned much from this message board and finally have a reason to join, I'll probably have a bunch of questions as this is my first diesel powered vehicle.

Congrats and welcome. Nice car, what is the medallion on the grille? This board has a tremendous amount of information and a good search function so you don't have to wait for answers.

I think the grille badge is the 250,000 km badge.
Thanks for the warm welcome

I saw that car for sale and I wanted it, but had to put a tranny in my SEC so i didn't bid. I had enough faith in the seller and what he said about the car that I was thinking of flying in an driving it back to So Cal. Just as that auction closed a friend gave me a 300SD, not as nice as that one, but was a two owner car(one family since new, son.stepfather.) so I'm a happy camper. Got the tranny rebuilt and got a diesel MB.Life IS good.

I really like the color. Looks like a solid vehicle. Be prepared to only purchase Mercedes Benz from now on. I've owned 80+ cars, the last three and every future one will be a Mercedes. Welcome to the best resource for Mercedes information on the internet.

Also seeing as that is a 1978 I'd like to extend the email address James@vintagebenz.org, or something else if you like. Shoot me a PM or an email to bryan@vintagebenz.org and I can get you all setup.

Welcome to the club!

I am sure that you wil have a lot of fun driving, tinkering and just communing with your diesel.
Political discussions and good natured ribbing aside, the people on this board are excellent and have a lot of great information on how to keep your car running the way it was meant to.

You should also join the Mercedes Benz Club of America at mbca.org, go to your local chapter meets and learn from your local people.

One word of warning -- if you are not careful you can become obsessed with these cars and start collectinng a bunch of them

very nice.
Welcome to the forum!
my 78 is in MUCH worse shape... PA car. passed PA rust inspection... with a bit of welding... blew a head gasket when PO changed the DREADED SERVO... I suppose he did not burp properly, and left air in the head... he wondered why the temp gauge never read warm after the repair
if the seller has not put a fuse in the water circ aux pump, get one in. also keep that cooling system in top shape. the servo's are quite pricey, and problematic.
mostly though ENJOY your MB!
