Goodbye friends --- last post

Sold the 300cd last month for $3,000 on ebay.

Just wanted to say thanks and goodbye to everyone who has helped, traded parts, listened, laughed, cried, and loved.

I was very glad to own my 300cd for about 2 years, and learned an awful lot about working on cars.

Just as a benchmark, I was buying diesel for about $2.59 per when I bought, and now it is $4.90 in town...

I may be back one day, because of the brand, and this community.

Thanks again, and best wishes.

Here I was thinking he was going to blow his brains out on the internet. What a bitter disappointment.

Why did you sell?

you won't be asking as many questions as before, but you can still visit, and share your knowledge if something CD specific comes up!

My present neighbors (retired couple) sold their house 34 miles away, yet visit their old neighbors 3 or 4 times a week.

As said, no real need to leave, unless you're cutting out the internet altogether.

This place is unusual and special.
Special can have multiple meanings, though.

Hopefully he's not one of those people selling off their diesel because of the "higher cost of the fuel" Gotta look at the big picture of expenses.

Today I figured out that what I spend on my car on a yearly basis is far far less than what I would spend if I had a leased VW golf (per their latest special deal campaign)

You can get a golf for like $180 a month or something leased....however, the insurance on that car would be over 2x what I pay per year....it has a limited # of miles you can drive it, and so on. $180 * 12 months = $2160 a year.... + another $2000 or so for insuring it. $4160 Fuel, the golf gasser can get like 27 city 30 hwy on a good day according to stats.... so I'd use about $2200 a year in fuel (if using regular at current prices) to drive approx 15,000 miles a year at around 28 mpg.

So:
Golf:
Lease: $2160 a year
Insurance: $2000 a year
Registration for gasser in MI: around $90
Gas: $2200 a year
Maintenance: $100 (assuming just two synthetic oil changes for the year, and nothing else)

Total cost of ownership per year: $6550 (or more!)

My 300SD:
Lease/Payment: $0
Insurance: $920 a year
Registration for diesel in MI: (it goes by weight) so $36
Diesel: $2900 a year
Maintenance: Budgeting $750 (I've only spent like $140 so far this year! )

Total cost of ownership per year: $4606 or less! Way cheaper. Not to mention I get a huge safe MB instead of a tiny VW.

I was envious of your CD, that is one nice car. I feel bad you sold it, but you have your reasons. I enjoyed reading your input and hoops you had to jump through figuring out these old Diesels.

so stay in touch with the group, and whether you are driving another MB or a ______, you never know when you might be passing through one of our neighborhoods. there will be one of us to give you a helping hand. or stop in for coffee and BS.

take care.

I am sure we'll see you again. What else are you going to do when you are on the internet? There is always something interesting here.

You will certainly have less aggravation in your life. Well, unless you bought a Land Rover or something French.
Good luck to you and we hope to see you again......

Why did you sell?
Sorry to disappoint dude. If it helps, you can believe I am gone by way of offing myself.

A/C went out, diesel went up $2 dollars per, and my wife didn't like driving the car. SO 2 out of 3 was enough to sell, plus I found the Bimmer for sale locally.

I will probably be back because I enjoyed it so...
