Stalling when coming up to a stop

Hi all,

My 240D Manual has been stalling every time it comes up to stop (Yes I'm putting the clutch in) or even if I take it out of gear and let it drop to idle.

Now it has been running on 3 Cylinders for a week now and it does it even if the breather is venting to the air, it also dose it if the fuel cap is off.

I have:
Replaced primely fuel filter
Replaced secondary fuel filter
Checked tank strainer and found it to be clean.

It really fells like its not getting fuel when it dies and is hard to start afterwards. My thoughts are ether the secondary got dirty after 10-15 mins or the lift pump isn't lifting.

Yesterday when I tried to come home I noticed it was starting to over heat (stuck thermostat I hope...) Stalled when I tried to get off the freeway, and this coolant flush thing a PO installed blows! out goes my coolant and I'm left pushing my car a mile in Arizona to get it off the road... Ended up trailering it back to work.

Any ideas? Stuff like this really bugs me.

Thanks,
Nathan.

Could be an air leak. How old is your fuel hose? Is there excess air in the inline fuel filter?

those stupid plastic flush caps ALWAYS blow!@@$#&(@^ !!! if you use a flush kit, put on a brass cap! or a brass ball valve. that's what I did.

No leaking fuel and I don't think there that old, I just replaced the one after the pre-filter the bubble in it is as small as I can get, all though some times there is a little one in the 90deg part.

If I remember correctly there where not any bubble in the clear fuel line post lift-pump after I stalled... All though they could have gotten pushed out when I tried to restart it at first... It has new style primer pump...

You say its running on 3 cylinders, do you mean this literally? Or just an overall lack of power? How does it idle at startup?

Literally... It idles all right for running on 3

It really weird though, the other night I set the idle for ~750 and today it dropped down to ~650 then stalled...

Really does seem like it just can't get enough fuel Maybe I need to see how much the lift pump is lifting

Nathan.

You cracked the injectors one at a time and one of them did not change the bad idle? How did you determine its running on 3? If you aren't getting fuel at all 4 lines you will need a new IP.

I did crack the lines and found it to be #1 and later conformed with a compression test. As they say "It's dead Jim!"

(See http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=229408)

I am getting air in there some how I just have to figure out where...
Any one know what size for the fitting on the tank? I'm thinking about just getting a nipple for it.

Would it be a bad idea to take the filler cap off and run some air through the line to help find the leak? Maybe like 10 PSI?

Thanks,
Nathan
