Lightbulb Difference between two 603 engines

Hi

I just bought a 300D (no turbo) W124, I don't know much about the previous owner since I bought it to a dealer it was bargain with some problems...

I'm almost sure they changed the engine because the chassis doesn´t have hydraulic suspension system, but the engine has the pump which is sealed.

Anyone knows the difference between both engines (with and with out the hydraulic system), if there is?
Will I have any problem with the engine because hydraulic pump is sealed?

Thanks

white 190D '84 (sold at 130K mi)

603 engines

Danny:

The pump for the self-leveling suspension is on the power steering pump on the gasoline 300. Where is the pump you are discussing?

Thanks for your replies
Sorry if I'm not much help I don't know the exact name of the system or the technical english names for most of the engine parts as you can see I'm also not much of a mechanic or MB expert. I just love this cars they drive great, extra comfortable and very classy. You are great help.

Bill
I'm surprised , do you know what engine is my car suppose to have? I guess this is not very common.

Peter

In my 6cyl diesel engine this pump is small and circular attached to the engine's frontal part. It also has to holes which are sealed. Any ideas.

Danny,

What is the engine number? I see that you are in Costa Rica or
Nicarauga It is possible that MB made non-tubo engines for your region, although do you think that it originally had a turbo and someone took it off? As far as I know, the model 124 diesels with the 603 engines all had turbos in the US. Perhaps someone knows differently.

Steve.

My Mb was bought in United States and brought here later on.
There is no trace that this chassis had a turbo

This engine has a pump which I believe is for the self-leveling suspension, but the chassis does not have the system.

The engine's number is part of the problem.

engine: 603 016 10 01

Soon I will be posting a pic.

Danny,

I'll make a call to MBUSA on your behalf tomorrow and give them the VIN of your car. In the past, they have been kind enough to supply me with the invoice that shows the equipment the car originally had. Perhaps they can forward the information to you if you want it. As far as the self-leveling suspension goes, Check the rear suspension to see if you have accumulators back there.
If you do, or if you have any lines that go near your rear shocks, I'll bet that the car originally had the system. If you want to refit your car with the System, call the parts people at this website--they are really good. You will notice that I capitalized the word System. The cost of the goods requires it! It is really nice when it works properly(which is most of the time), giving a smooth, level ride no matter what the load. My '87 wagon has only had the accumulators replaced ($400.00) and it works perfectly. Which is not to say that it won't fail tomorrow morning.

Dear Steve

I am very grateful for all of your concern.

Definitely the car doesn’t have the accumulators or any lines that go near the rear shocks. I´ll be waiting for MBUSA reply and probably I´ll finally know what happened to this car .

I only hope having this pump sealed will not be a problem.

Thanks again,

Danny
