Broken screw in prefilter assembly

I was changing the pre filter and fuel filter and made the mistake of over torquing the screw that holds the pre filter in place.

What would be the easiest way to get that sucker out?
or would it be better to get a new assembly?
where can I get the new assembly?

What car? The only screw on a prefilter on a 123 or 126 is the screw in the stainless steel clamp. But clamp should be loose if screw is broken.

By any chance, might this be in a Mercedes? An OM606 perhaps? (I don't like to guess.) In any case, an EZ-out should remove the broken screw for you. The filter assembly would almost certainly have to come from a dealer and you wouldn't like the price, which would buy you a whole set of EZ-outs, the matching drill bits, and a good drill motor.

Request: please put your car's year and model number in your signature line.

Use a center punch to start the drill bit and make certain to tape the opening to the pre-filter shut before you start drilling and making shavings.

I think I read here a few times to limit torque on a steel bolt into aluminum at around 7-10 nm.
