I just wanted to say I love you guys!

I recently bought an 83 300D Turbo and the girl I bought it from did NOTHING to her. I got her cheap because she thought there was a ton of work that she needed. After looking through this forum and making some very minor adjustments, doing some routine maintenance that was very much needed, she runs like a CHAMP!

Transmission was shifting hard, reconnected one tiny little line, changed out the fuel filters and bled the system, ran diesel purge through 2 tanks now, changed the oil, air filter etc and now she runs wonderful! I still have to get the new Rack damper bolt and I am taking her to my trusty MB mechanic to check the valves and change out the transmission fluid and filter but other than that she is wonderful now.

I went to the junk yard and pulled some interior parts and I have yet to do that to make her pretty again. Because of this forum one tiny petite little lady was able to do all of this work herself. I paid 800 dollars for her and I love her! I attached a pic of my new old girl....

Thank you again guys!

Welcome to the forum MrsSudz.

Congratulations on your purchase and successful tinkering.

Just beware of the obsession that ends up taking over most of us old diesel owners. Classic MB diesels are like peanuts or chips ... you can't have just one.

This board is by far the best technical assistance source I have found for any brand.

I made the mistake of buying a BMW 7 series a couple of years back and thinking there would be as many knowledgable, willing and able people who would help out with problems I was having trouble solving only to find they are not nearly as helpful as the Benz owners are here. Maybe it is the nature of Bimmer owners not to help out a Mercedes fan but whatever the reason it was an eye opener and taught me not to take the help we all get and give here for granted...I'll add my thanks to all those who have helped me out over the years too.

Congratulations on the success. One point though, what exactly do you mean by "running diesel purge through 2 tanks"?

Diesel purge is not a fuel additive. It's intended to be run through the fuel system at 100% concentration. If you've added it to fuel in your tank, you're not getting any of the benefits (please, no flames from non-believers).

I agree with this. Even if there are minor benefits from dumping it in the tank, it's an awfully expensive "fuel additive".

Hopefully you're doing it like this MRsSudz:

Its cheaper to just run a bottle of RedLine Diesel Fuel Catalyst through a tank or two, can get it at autozone for about $7 a bottle.

Well ok

Not Diesel purge, but a couple of bottles of the diesel additive that is supposed to clean the system. Not sure of the brand, I have to buy another bottle so I will let you know. I got it at O' Rielly's Auto for about 9 dollars. Seems to be working I am getting a lot more power now after adding to the second tank and way better mileage.

Oh and I almost forgot...

Thank you for the links about the real diesel purge. When I asked at the parts store they looked at me like I was crazy....that's why I bought the fuel additive. And, yes I am totally and completely addicted to my benzies! I also have my 87 190E and she is a really good girl too. These are both used as daily drivers and we love them.

Be sure to keep an extra fuel pre-filter or two on hand in case you stir up too much gunk from the fuel tank.

How many miles are on your car?

Thank you, I did buy a couple of extra little filters just in case. She has 219k on her....I went to the junk yard and pulled some parts, wood trim for the glove box, passenger rear fender trim piece, sun visors and the side view mirrors. So I have that to keep my occupied. I also ordered some things from ********az like a transmission filter etc to take her to my mechanic to have done. I know my limits Plus if I bring him the parts and pay cash he is relatively cheap. His shop only works on Benz.

Careful, the mere mention of another parts source appears to be getting threads deleted these days.

Sometimes threads that discuss parts the sponsor doesn't stock and that others do that are full of useful information related to replacing said part are deleted so watch out.
