I think there was a nose upgrade inbetween that will keep the lights and anything next to them from matching up (wrong angle). -CTH

I believe the headlights and hood swap between 86-93 and 94-95 124s. The internals of the headlights are cut differently to match the grill contour but that's cosmetic. It might be the bumper that has fitment and more drastic cosmetic issues.

There was no 94 124 Diesel in the US. 90-93 saw the 300D 2.5 turbo (5cyl), 95 saw the E300 (6 cyl 24 valve non-turbo). Neither will outrun an 87. The 2.5 gets much better fuel mileage and the E300 is very smooth and quiet. I think it gets better fuel mileage too.

Sell the 87 intact and get what you need, except the radiator, from any old 300E in a wrecking yard. If it's a keeper, even poorly made TYC headlights (~$200) offer better lighting than DOT headlights. AFAIK the 2.5 radiator is model specific, as is the 87 300D radiator. I heard a 500E radiator will work in an 87 300D but good luck finding a 500E being parted.

You give up 20hp and 30 lbft . 0-60mph increases from 10 sec to 12. You definitely feel the missing cylinder if you have a heavy foot but you don't need 240D consciousness when merging. On the plus side even I can get 30 mpg out of a 2.5.

I believe the '87 had 148 hp. The 2.5T had 121 hp, with 165 ft. lbs torque. With a light foot, your 2.5 can get more than 30 mpg.

300D124 - Where

Where are you located?

You could actually use either engine if you wanted to, with some creative parts swapping.

im from nj.. jett mugg

believe it or not i dont think ill swap the engine id rather lose 20hp because this motor has 80k... the 87 has 500k miles ... and still runs good but still u know....

alrite now i really need help guys.. what should i look for thats the most common problem ( electrical problems ) im more concerned about ... his interior looks so hot it looks like it came out of the dealer brand new just 2 airbags blown no big deal .. no cracks or scratch's .... i had alot of issue's with the 87 .. no power door locks cant figure it out .. no power to pump .. the electric seats only work when the door is open .. cant figure that out eiether... im hoping this 1 doesn't have the same problems...

W124 power seats

These cars have two circuits that both operate the power seats. The first is activated by one of the front door relays and allows you to adjust the seat before you get into the car. This is working in your car, based on what you say.

The second circuit is the "normal" circuit, which is powered through the ignition switch, Fuse 2 (16 Amps, in the main fuse box), and V1, the "power seat diode," which is also in the relay area behind the main fuse box. V1 is all the way to the back, next to the firewall, and on the left (driver) side of the relay box.

The fact that the power seats work at all means that K5, the power seat relay, is good, as are fuses "E" and "F," which are in an "auxiliary fuse holder," located in the relay area behind the main fuse box (remove six captive screws to get the cover off). The aux fuse holder is in the right (passenger) side of the relay box, all the way to the front of the relay box, and holds only two fuses (25 Amps).

The culprit, however, is most likely to be Fuse F2 or V1, the "power seat diode." Fuse F2 also powers the wiper/washer circuit and the power window circuit so you can easily find out if it's bad. If it is good, check V1.

You can check V1, the "power seat diode," by pulling it out of its socket in the relay box and using an ohmmeter. With the ohmmeter leads connected one way, you should get continuity through the diode. With the leads reversed, you should get no continuity. No continuity either way means the diode is "open" and that is the source of your problem. Continuity both ways means a shorted diode; in that case, the seats would work but the windows and wipers would also work with the doors open and you can check for that.

If the diode seems to be good but the seats still don't work with the doors closed and key on, you may have a broken wire someplace and that will be much harder to track down.

Let us know what you find.

Jeremy

Oops, 30MPG.

With a heavy foot, better than 130mph.
