Oil Dipstick Tube Install
Long story short -I smashed the Lower and Upper Oil pan on a curb.
![]() Question - how hard is it to install the new tube? I straightened the old one as best I could, but I couldn't get it to seat properly. Will that be a problem with a new tube, or will it slide right in? Thanks |

Well, I got the old one straightened out enough to put it back in. I did improvise a shadetree fix that some might be interested in.
The problem was that after straightening the tube, it was out of round, making it like putting a square peg in a round hole. To fix that, I took a big cresent wrench and tightened it to the diameter of a good section of tube. I then moved it to the messed up section, and rotated it around the tube several dozen times, tightening the wrench slightly as I went along. That reshaped the tube to make it round again. I used some emery cloth to smooth everything up, put some grease on it, and pounded it in. ![]() |
