Installed A Boost Guage...

And have now learned that my wastegate is fudged. Accelerating under more than 1/3 throttle at 1800rpm or higher will peg the needle on my 20psi boost gauge. I have been driving the car like this since I have owned it. I know this since the turbo whine at that pressure is unique. Now that I have a gauge showing me what the pressure is at I had to do something so I went to confirm that it was the wastegate and the line to the actuator will not hold any air pressure at all. Is there a diaphragm in it that can tear? What are my options for fixing it? For now to control boost I have disconnected the wastegate hose and routed it into the u tube at the turbo inlet. Makes the system inefficient I know but it will not let it build more than 15psi now. So just for everyone's information I have run this car at who knows what pressure for the past almost 2 years and have not damaged anything yet. Pretty durable. I think we can raise the "safe" boost level for modified IP cars...

The car:

1982 300D (AirResearch not KKK)
-Alda Removed (I know I know....But I'd rather use my foot to control fuel)

If the over boost protection circuit is still in tact and working it should have cut the boost/fuel enrichment when it detected such high pressure. Did this not happen?

Like I said I run my car hard and it has been fine for 2 years now. The engine is original and tired I'm sure (608000KMS) So I'm not too worried about when something happens because I am expecting to put a new one in in the next couple months regardless.
