A different type of Vac pump Failure...

After reading all the threads about failure of the old style vacuum pump and the fact that mine was leaking oil and spraying it everywhere, I decided to change the pump on my OM602. Because I'm a cheap student and thought it looked like a good deal I bought a pump from ebay for £35 (about $70) and put it on. The pump was marked "YS" and manufactured in 2007. From the moment I put it on it made a pretty bad knocking noise which I hoped would go away after a few miles. Well, it didnt. I lost all vacuum assist while driving down the road, luckily it was on a dual carriageway so I could just puill off the next junction and engine brake down to a slow speed. I carried the old pump with me in the car because I was expecting the new one to fail, so just swapped them over on the side of the road. Heres some pics of the new pump:

Quite lucky it didnt let go really! I emailed the aby seller and theyre going to send me a new one, hopefully this one will be a bit better.

Good you cought it in time. there are some things not to cut corners on,
and the Vac pump is one. they are pricy new, but when one lets go and
takes out the timing chain etc... they look like a good deal compared to a
new replacement engine.

Some of that E-Bay stuff can be a crap shoot at times. hope the seller
replaces it for you.

Forum member GSXR had the same problem with his 60xx engine also.
check out his site and click on OM603 misc/ and then Vac Pump.

he has a lot of stuff on his site, interesting read.
