Looks awesome but what did you have in the washer bottle that turned it orange?

Very nice, very clean. I LOVE the coco floormats/sheepskin seat covers combo. That was common on many MBs of the 80s.

Thats rain-x washer fluid, turns the washer bottle/lines orange. I found that using the blue stuff discolors the paint on the hood around the washer jets. This does too but easier to clean off.

This car has been in my family since purchased new in Dec 1980. It now has 198,000 miles and is still a daily driver. People don't believe me when I tell them it's a 28 year old car. Thanks for all of your nice comments. My goal is to maintain it and enjoy it, not turn it into a museum piece.

The good and the bad.....
Hi BENZSTER !!!
*daw faints* I didn't think you posted much and now we even get pics. WOW!!! Okay guys, I have to give you the good and the bad about his car. I've never seen it in person, yet since I moved, he (and his car) are less than 1/4 mile from my house the way the crow flys. Would that be correct, BENZSTER? So, yes, I moved to a neighborhood that has several old (and very nice looking) w123s. My next door neighbor has a yellow 300D that is driven daily by his nephew (to college). I've got to get over to meet you (and especially your car). That was the good; now for the bad ---- with cars like this; I'll never win top honors in the neighborhood. NICE!!!!

Your car looks amazing. I don't think I've ever seen a more pristine 240d in my life. Looks just like the one my family had when I was a kid. Except yours is much cleaner.

Beautiful car!!! I also like to hear that she's gonna be a working girl and not a prima donna..... **edit** I didn't pay near enough attention to that pristine Blue dash. That may be the most amazing aspect of your interior. If that is a dash cap it is a very clean job, if not, wow! My blue Texas dashes are too warped, much less split to use a dash cap.

i like the fuel filter inline with the vacuum system. what are you trying to catch? see if you have oil in it? very clever actually.

Yes daw we need to meet up at some point.
For under the hood detailing, I use diluted Simple Green with a stiff nylon brush a lot of elbow grease and low running water to rinse out. I just wipe out the engine compartment with a damp cloth or chamois occasionally to keep things in order. I only use the Simple Green once a year when I do my heavy detailing. For engine hoses and tires I use Meguiar's Natural Shine vinyl and rubber protectant. The interior dash is original and gets wiped down with 303 Aerospace protectant. As for the inline filter, for anyone that is familiar with old Type 1/2 Volkswagens you will recognize that as an often used in-line fuel filter. I use it to inspect for oil as an indicator that the vacuum pump may be going south. Nothing worse than getting a bunch of oil in the vacuum system.

Benzster, that is a beautifully kept 240D.
I am trying to bring my 240D up to that condition. Your pictures reassure me that it is possible, but I understand how much work it takes to keep a diesel engine bay that clean. I also use the Simple Green and the rubber protector, and I have the best results with those. Good job keeping the car so spotless, it can be really hard when it's a daily driver. Edit: Benzster, do you mind sharing whether you use a wax or polish? Your paint looks to be in such good shape...

This is what I use for the paint. http://www.zymol.com/zymolsmartkit-creamevinyl.aspx They have a different wax for dark colors. Using the paint cleaner is labor intensive but does a great job. I really like the wax because a little goes a long way and it does not stain the exterior rubber trim.
Check out their $45,000.00 container of car wax. http://www.zymol.com/zymolsolaris.aspx Is this crazy or what?
